BOMA Memphis' Members Volunteer in Frayser to Clean-up Youth Vision Communitee Center in Frayser

Dozens of volunteers from Building Owners and Managers Association Memphis spent their Saturday morning together.  They donated their time and energies assisting the youth center in Frayser by painting, spray washing, laying tile, landscaping, signage maintenance, and even pourig hardtop and installing a new basketball court - complete with basketball goals donated by the Memphis Grizzlies.

Marron Thomas, executive director of Youth Visions, was interviewed by the local news channel as they filmed the progress of the project.  "A lot of times when our kids go into the community they see drug dealers and crack addicts and they don't have a place to come where they feel safe and a place that is beautiful," said Marron.  Youth Visions, located on Overton Crossing and St. Elmo Avenue,  serves more than 200 school age youth in the community of Frayser.

"Our members what to give to the community what is now becoming obsolete: our time, our experience, and our influence; to help make a difference where we can," stated Jimmy Hollingsworth of Hollingsworth Paving - chair of the Community Services Committee that coordinated the project for BOMA Memphis.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Alex Bolar, the Frayser teen shot and killed in a city park earlier this month was a latch key kid, according to his father.  Ironically, just a little more than 100 yards away from the place where Alex died, Frayser's Youth Visions welcomes latch key kids every school day. "We have an after school program here," said Youth Visions' Marron Thomas. "Club programs, college prep programs, just a variety of programs to empower youth to become leaders."
